Record snowfalls in many Russian regions have created difficulties not only for motorists but also for organizations responsible for road maintenance. According to meteorologists, approximately 140 mm of precipitation fell in Novosibirsk from November 2025 to January 10, 2026, for the first time since 1900. The average snow depth was above normal, as well as above last winter's levels. The situation was exacerbated by sharply below-freezing temperatures, which have remained below 30°C in recent days. Despite this, VIS Group managed to maintain the bridge crossing over the Ob River to standard.
The road is being cleared of snow around the clock. Snow temporarily stored at sites has begun to be removed to snow-melting stations today, with over 20 units of equipment, including that belonging to the general contractor. This work is scheduled to be completed within three days. Until today, due to the large volume of snow being removed from city streets and the severe subzero temperatures, transporting the snow for disposal was impossible.
The bridge crossing is operated by Transtoll, a part of VIS Group, the project concessionaire. Vehicles have been able to pass freely following the heavy snowfalls, as recorded by drone footage. The roadway is being treated with a special reagent capable of melting ice and snow-ice deposits. It contains corrosion inhibitors and special additives that reduce its aggressive effect on the metal surfaces of vehicles.
At the initiative of the bridge concessionaire, temporary traffic was launched in December 2025, allowing motorists to use the constructed infrastructure even before the completion of all work stipulated by the concession agreement. Travel along the entire main road and interchanges on both banks is currently free.
The technical basis for opening traffic is the temporary traffic management plan approved by the Novosibirsk City Administration's Department of Highways. In accordance with the requirements of Part 3.8 of Article 49 of the Urban Development Code of the Russian Federation, this plan has received confirmation of compliance from the general designer.
