On Saturday, during a tour of the republic’s construction sites, Head of Yakutia Aisen Nikolaev visited the site of the Arctic Center for Epic Literature and the Arts, which is being built in Yakutsk by VIS Group. This is a public-private partnership project implemented with extra-budgetary funding, which exceeds 70% in the construction phase.
“The project has entered the final construction stage, with the main focus of work being interior finishing. Approximately 500 people and 9 units of specialized equipment are involved in this phase. A decorative façade is being installed over the glazing, which will give the building its final appearance. Landscaping is underway in the surrounding area: lighting poles and curbs are being installed, paving slabs are being laid, and the road surface is being compacted layer by layer. The cape near Lake Saisary has already been landscaped,” said Andrey Kovalev, CEO of VIS Group’s Construction Competence Center.
The unique façade system was developed by the architectural firm Sabo Systems specifically for VIS Group’s project. 220 tons of steel and aluminum structures will be positioned around the building, creating a play of light and shadow. They are designed for Yakutsk's harsh climate and will withstand temperatures down to -64°C, wind and snow loads, and magnitude 7 seismic activity.
“The construction of the facility required the use of a number of customized technological solutions. The facility is outfitted with complex technological equipment – ventilation, fire suppression, air aspiration, and electrical systems. The total length of utility lines exceeds 440 km. Most of this work has already been completed,” said Andrey Kovalev.
Construction workers are plastering the walls, whose total area exceeds 42,000 m². Installation of all stage equipment has been completed in the Philharmonic Hall. A stage lift mechanism will allow the symphony orchestra to change positions and perform both at stage level and in the orchestra pit. Scaffolding is being assembled in order to cover the walls with acoustic panels, which will ensure a “live” sound for musical instruments and performers.
Stage equipment – turntables with lifting mechanisms – has also been installed in the theater halls. Such technologies and capabilities will be available to creative groups in Yakutia for the first time, and the lighting, multimedia, and acoustic equipment will allow events of any scale to be held.
Key work on the roof has been completed. Currently, a protective reinforced concrete slab is being poured, and stairs and parapets are being insulated. The roof will be converted into an event space with an amphitheater and an observation deck. A walkable roof, the first of its kind in Yakutia and throughout the Russian Far East, will be one of the project's distinctive features.
“Today we are entering the home stretch: construction is almost 90% complete. Extensive work is underway, not just on utilities, but also on the roof itself. Finishing work has begun, and final finishing will start soon in several spaces. The scope of work is extensive. I am confident that this center will become not only the pride of Yakutia but also an important one for all of Russia,” said Aisen Nikolaev, commenting on the results of the inspection.
The building, with a total area of almost 33,000 m² and a height of 36.7 meters, will house a philharmonic hall and two theater halls under one roof, each with the ability to be transformed into a single space. The total capacity of the auditoriums is 1,530 seats. Following the completion of the building, VIS Group will provide technical maintenance until the agreement with the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) expires in 2031.
