The left-bank interchange is one of the key elements of the concession project to build a bridge across the Ob River in Novosibirsk. This complex infrastructure undertaking includes a tunnel, a tram overpass, and 25 ramps, including elevated ones. All of this should help relieve congestion at one of Novosibirsk's busiest transportation hubs.
Today, construction continues on the ramp section of the 45-meter tunnel along Stanislavsky Street. This is one of the final elements of the interchange, connected to five yet-to-be-opened ramps. This 5-meter-high, six-lane road section will relaunch traffic under the Trans-Siberian Railway. Its total length, including the approaches, is 285 meters. Erection of the supporting structures, wall construction, and foundation preparation for subsequent concrete pouring are underway. Work on the tunnel portals will also begin soon.
Simultaneously, concrete is being poured for the superstructure sections and retaining walls of the C3 ramp, which runs parallel to the tram overpass that opened on Monday. The work is being carried out in stages, including at night, ensuring a continuous process and high-quality concrete. The monolithic road slab is being formed in compliance with all technological requirements, including reinforcement. The design and geometry control are ongoing. The total length of the ramp is 554 meters, with a roadway width of 9.75 meters. Traffic will travel along the ramp in two lanes from Shirokaya Street, above the main traffic flows at Truda Square.
Historically, the area around Energetikov and Truda Squares has been home to two consecutive roundabouts with multiple ramps. As traffic increased, they were unable to cope with the flow, and traffic congestion in this section became a serious problem. Construction on this busy thoroughfare presented a challenge for the builders, as some work required changes to the layout or partial closures. Therefore, as individual portions are completed, VIS Group opens them to traffic. As of today, 12 ramps of the left-bank interchange and a 1.5-kilometer tram overpass are already open.
The concession project to build a bridge and transport interchanges on both banks of the Ob River is being implemented under an agreement between the Novosibirsk Region Government and VIS Group. It aims to comprehensively develop transport infrastructure and improve the quality of the urban environment in Novosibirsk. This will result in new transport links between the city's districts and a significant increase in the road network capacity. VIS Group is the project’s investor and concessionaire, providing construction, securing extra-budgetary financing, and subsequent operation of the entire infrastructure until 2042. The design documentation was developed by Stroyproekt Institute at the request of the regional government, and the Novosibirsk City Hall issued a permit to begin construction at one of the first stages in February 2020.
