20.10.2026. Federation Council Senators express confidence in the successful completion of the Lena Bridge

One of Russia’s largest infrastructure projects took center stage today for members of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia. During a visit to Yakutia, the senators toured the Lena Bridge construction site. Sergey Romashov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VIS Group, provided an update on the progress of the concession project.

In the riverbed, work is being carried out inside cofferdams. Five drilling rigs mounted on metal frames are being used to install bored piles. In the central structure, 52 piles, which is 25% of the total number required, have been completed to date. In the right-hand cofferdam, 10 bored piles are now finished. This number is sufficient to ensure the stability of the massive metal structures during the freeze-up period. Constructing the pile foundations for the bridge pylons is one of the most critical and complex phases of the project.

“We were here back in 2019, and we remember how much the residents of the republic and its leadership wanted this large-scale project to be implemented. Today, we can see that construction is in an active phase. I am confident that the bridge will be of great benefit to Yakutia and will serve the republic’s residents for many years to come,” noted Andrey Kutepov, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy.

On both banks of the Lena River, four construction staging areas have been set up; the first pier for the left-bank approach viaduct has been erected, and 365 out of 920 bored piles for the bridge’s pier foundations have been installed. Pile foundations for 12 of the 26 piers are now complete. Work is underway on the embankment for the 5.5 km-long right-bank approach; over 730,000 m³ of soil out of a total of 2.8 million m³ have already been placed. More than 300 specialists and approximately 70 units of heavy machinery are working at the site around the clock.

“The Lena Bridge is a unique engineering project. Structures of this scale have never before been built at such latitudes. The temperature difference between summer and winter reaches 100° Celsius, placing stringent requirements on the quality of the concrete and metal to ensure the cable-stayed bridge can withstand such loads. It took four years to complete the design and assess all technical risks, and we are now moving confidently along our planned path,” said Sergey Romashov.

The 4.6 km-long, three-pylon cable-stayed bridge will for the first time provide year-round vehicular connectivity between parts of the republic currently separated by the river. The new transport artery will span a total of 14.5 km. It will link the Lena, Kolyma, and Vilyuy federal highways, effectively connecting the eastern part of Russia to the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. The project is being implemented under a concession agreement between VIS Group and the Government of Yakutia, as part of the “Infrastructure for Life” national project. The Group acts as the investor, concessionaire, and general contractor for the construction of the Lena Bridge.
